�����John Ball was born on 12 July 1817 at Goshen, Orange County, New York.1 He was baptized on 1 August 1818 at Goshen Presbyterian Church, Goshen, Orange County, New York; according to "Early Records of Goshen (New York) Presbyterian Church 1767-1885" by Coleman.2 He moved with his parents to New Jersey, near Newark where he attended carpenters' school in 1831.2 He was sent to work in Newark in 1833.2 He moved with his parents to Michigan City, Indiana in August 1835.2 He married Nancy Glover on 9 May 1836 at Michigan City, LaPorte County, Indiana.3,1,2 John Ball appeared on the census of 1850; John Ball; 33 NY Farmer.2 He moved to Ulster Township, Floyd Co., Iowa where they bought 400 acres on Flood Creek to become the first settlers in that township in 1853.2 He appeared on the census of 18 June 1860 at Ulster Township, Floyd County, Iowa; 140 134 John Ball Age 43 Male Farmer, born in New York.4 In 1875 they sold their farm in Floyd County, Iowa and moved to Sunnyside, Clackamas County, Oregon to be near children (Emily Hubbard and J. Emmons Ball) who had moved west in 1875. (according to their great-granddaughter, Iva Hubbard Cook in 1994) However, according to a paper written by their grandson, Howard Ball in 1948, they sold their Floyd County, Iowa farm in 1887 and moved to Oregon to be with their children.2 Floyd County land sale by John and Nancy (signature of Nancy witnessed by a James Glover in Buchanan Township, Berrien County, Michigan and she relinquished her dowry rights?) in 1888.2 He died on 23 July 1891 at Sunnyside, Clackamas County, Oregon, at age 74.1,3 He was buried at Damascus Pioneer Cemetery, Damascus, Clackamas County, Oregon.1,5
