John Edson (Ega #181) married Tabitha Keen 23 Oct 1784 (Intentions) at Bridgewater, Massachusetts. John Edson (EGA#181), first child of John Edson(EGA#82) and Hannah Allen, born June 4, 1752, Bridgewater, Mass.,, married, intentions there, Oct. 23 1784, Tabitha Keen. He served in the Revolutionary War, and was in camp near New York on Aug. 9, 1776. He went to Vermont. The names and data of most of his children are unknown. He is presumed to be the John Edson shown in the 1790 Census, and the 1800 Census, in Bridgewater, Mass., and is presumed to be the John Edson shown in the 1810 Census, in Shrewsbury, VT. The four children shown in 1790, were not living with him in 1810, which is not surprising.
The Hannah shown below as his daughter is known to be a sister of the Seth Allen Edson shown as his son. While absolute proof of this descent has not been established, the accumulation of circumstantial evidence warrants accepting this as a probable relationship. The children of Seth Allen Edson and his wife, Hannah Edson, referred to their parents as second cousins, which would be the case.
John Edson's brother, Nehemiah, went to Chester, VT, which is near Shrewsbury, VT, and is connected to it by a main road, and the latter is where Seth Allen Edson married. And John Edson's mother was Hannah Allen, which would account both for the name of his daughter, and for the Allen in the name of Seth Allen Edson. And when he was kidded about his family, John Edson, who served in the Revolutionary War, laughed and passed it off saying, "They were Tories." In fact, John Edson (EGA#82), his father, was a loyalist, as were the latter's brothers, and died of smallpox contracted on a prison ship in Boston Harbor. While this is circumstantial evidence, cumulatively it would seem to be pretty conclusive. John Edson (Ega #181) was born on 4 June 1752 at Bridgewater, Massachusetts. He was the son of John Edson (Ega #82) and Hannah Allen.

Thomas Edson (EGA#181-1) born about 1785, presumed to be the first child of John Edson (EGA#181) and Tabitha Keen. He lived in Shrewsbury, VT, and his presumed time of birth agrees with that of the first son of John Edson and Tabitha Keen. This line is the only Edson family found to have lived early in Shrewsbury. So it is probable that Thomas is, as indicated, the son of John (EGA#181). Thomas Edson (Ega #181-1) was born in 1785. He was the son of John Edson (Ega #181) and Tabitha Keen. Thomas Edson (Ega #181-1) married Lucy Howard on 26 March 1809 at Rutland, VT.
